The University Council
The overall governing body of DWU is the University Council.
The membership of the Council as established by the Divine Word University Act 1999 is:
- a Chairperson appointed by the Head of the SVD in PNG;
- the President of the University;
- the Head of the PNG Province of the SVD;
- four other members appointed by the Provincial Council of the SVD;
- and not more than six other persons appointed by the DWU Council.
The Council meets at least three times a year.
The Academic Board
The Academic Board is responsible for the academic development of Divine Word University in accordance with the vision, mission and charter of the University. The responsibilities of the Board include the following:
- Develop and approve new policies ensure the consistency of existing policies make decisions by applying policies and guidelines in connection with all academic matters relating to the University, including
- Student recruitment, admission, enrolment, assessment, academic dismissal, graduation and awards the maintenance and upgrading of the academic standards of the University research library acquisitions evaluation of teaching
- Program and unit development, course review, teaching methodologies and curriculum development
- Consider and recommend to Cabinet developmental and strategic plans from the academic depar
- Receive written quarterly reports from each Head of Department regarding new developments and implementation of departmental programs
The Academic Board submits all proposals that have resource implications, with a recommendation, to Cabinet for consideration.
