Madang Libraries

The Friendship Librarybuilding was officially opened on the 29th April 2004. The library collection, previously located in a different building, dates back to the 1960s during the days of the earlier SVD High School. By 1979 the collection developed in order to support the new Divine Word Institute curriculum. The Institute continued to evolve and in 1996 when Divine Word University was established the collection developed further.

Today the Friendship Library offers a collection of resources in all media formats complemented by Information Technology facilities including Internet access via broadband, online databases, online journals, facilities for electronic transmission of documents and data storage for academic purposes.

The main objective of the Friendship Library is to work together with the academic community in order to offer maximum support for the University’s mission and the University’s current Teaching and Research Programs thus becoming a vibrant centre   for the life-long learning habits of students, researchers and staff.

The Friendship Library is also open to members of the public who join the Library.

The Noser Library is named after the late Archbishop of Madang Adolph Noser, SVD.

The main objective of the Noser Library is to support research in all areas related to Papua New Guinean studies. The Noser Library endeavours to collect as far as possible material on Madang and the Madang Province in the first instance as well as on the history and development of Papua New Guinea in general.

The Noser Library contains valuable unique archival material on various aspects of PNG society focusing on Madang, Morobe, the Sepik and the Highlands Provinces and on the Divine Word Society’s operations and personnel in those areas.

The Noser Library is a non-lending Reference Library also open to the general public. Its resources can only be consulted on site. Where possible a second copy is also available in the Friendship Library.
