Maritime College teams up with DWU

Maritime DWU signingThe Papua New Guinea Maritime College has signed a  memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Divine Word University, paving the way  for collaboration in the education of seamen.

The MOU was signed by the Maritime College principal,  Captain Richard Teo and DWU president Fr Jan Czuba last Wednesday 18th  April, 2012. Capt Teo and Fr Czuba both said the two institutions of  higher education were located immediately opposite to each other in Madang but  never worked together until the MOU signing.

They said it marks an important occasion for the Maritime  College in particular to enable its students to also take up studies in  management, leadership and other relevant areas at the University in addition  to their seamanship training. The two leaders said the MOU provides the opportunity for  seafarers who are trained at the Maritime College to also receive university  education that can make them compatible and employable in the shipping industry  and other areas anywhere in the world. Captain Teo said the collaboration with DWU sets a new  benchmark for his college as it attempts to make its graduates marketable on  the competitive world of seafaring and shipping.

he  ceremony was witnessed by commissioners of the Commission of Higher Education,  Research, Science and Technology who were on a tour of institutions in Madang.  One of the Commissioners, Joseph Sukwianomb said the MOU between the two higher  education providers was a milestone that allows them to advance the education of  seamen and women
