Students thank Australia

Divine Word University students have thanked the Australian government for providing them with five new dormitories.

President of the Students Representative Council, Rosemary Miria offered the students’ gratitude during the opening ceremony of the dormitories at the Madang campus on Saturday 29th September, 2012.

“Your support shows that you care for the country,” said Ms Miria.

She said the new dormitories, funded by AusAID’s PNG Incentive Fund, was part of ongoing positive changes taking place at the University to serve the needs of the country.

The student leader said the students will take of the dormitories in appreciation of the great support from Australia.

Ms Miria also thanked the many behind-the-scenes people in the construction of the dormitories including the DWU building team headed by David Lee.

In showing the students’ appreciation to Australia, Ms Miria presented a bag of gifts to head of AusAID in PNG, Stewart Schaefer. The bag of gifts of contained the popular Madang book and the first copy of the University’s 2013 Calendar which features AusAID’s contributions to DWU on the January page, which demonstrates how the university values contributions of the Australia. Both publications were published by DWU Press.
