Bank promotes careers

The Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) representatives were in Divine Word University (DWU) on Thursday, 16th of July, 2014 for the annual  career roadshow of the bank.

The roadshow was held to promote the Central Bank as a potential employer of graduates from the University.

The BPNG officers present encouraged students to seek employment in the Bank when they completed studies.

The BPNG team led by Ms Vagi Gareitz from the human resource department staged a fun-filled information session in the evening at the Sir Peter Barter Auditorium (SPBA) of the Madang campus.

Students, mostly from the Faculty of Business and Informatics turned up in numbers and were treated to an entertaining question-and-answer session where a handful walked away with prizes such as BPNG folders and other accessories.

Ms Gareitz, a first-timer to DWU commended students for the good turn out and said the exercise was beneficial to them.

She encouraged students to seek career opportunities with BPNG after graduation, saying that the Bank is a national entity that has its doors open to young Papua New Guineans.

The students were also informed of the core functions of the bank, its responsibilities and service to the community.

The Central Bank is among many employers who visit the University every year for similar information sessions with students. One common visit is by major private sector corporation that have graduate development programs and are required to recruit fresh graduates to be placed on their training schemes for a certain period before the awardees are considered for permanent employment. The graduate development schemes are popular with university student who do not hesitate to submit their application for consideration. The potential employers also send informational flyers to the University about their organisations seeking graduates in various fields of study. These flyers are duly posted on the University’s electronic notice board on its Intranet. At present, the international food corporation, Nestle, has a flyer graduate positions in sales, marketing, finance and supply chain for 2015 running on the DWU Intranet.
