Open Day to showcase DWU

The Divine Word University (DWU) Madang campus is looking forward to its annual Open Day on Sunday 1st May, 2016.

Preparations have been on track for the one-day event that would feature over 50 partners that include business houses, non-government organizations and institutions who would be setting up display and informational booths alongside departments of the four faculties of the University.

Every year, faculties take turn in organising the Open Day and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is taking the lead in 2016 under the leadership of its dean Associate Professor Jose Kurian.

The Open Day is a calendar event where the University reaches out to the public via displays and information sessions to share information and showcase its academic programs, research and community engagement activities. It is an occasion where students take the lead in sharing information with the public.

The theme for the 2016 Open Day is “DWU in collaborative learning and knowledge creation in the global higher education network.”

Head of the Delegation of European Union to Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Ambassador Ioannis Giogkarakis-Argyropoulos, will be the special guest and will deliver the keynote speech during the day.

Ambassador Giokarakis-Argyropoulos will also be presenting the European Union Cup 2016 Awards for the annual inter-college soccer which DWU students take part with their peers from other tertiary education institutions in Madang town.

For the first time, the newly introduced Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) will be among the departments to set up display and information booths. A total of twenty eight (28) students have enrolled in the MBBS program as pioneers.

Meanwhile cash prizes totaling K26,000 is up for grabs among four faculties as reward for the displays and information booths. Winner gets to get K10,000 while 2nd place gets K8,000 followed by third place K5,000 and while the fourth one gets three thousand.
