DWU managers attend leadership and management workshop

Academic and administrative leaders of Divine Word University participated in a two-day “leadership and management” workshop in the Madang campus on the first week of July, 2016.

University President Professor Cecilia Nembou arranged the workshop for the senior executive management team and line managers.

The workshop participants were the DWU President, Deputy President, Vice Presidents, Bursar, Registrar, Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments.

The workshop was facilitated by an expert on leadership and management Professor David Lamond from Australia who also teaches in DWU’s popular Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at the Port Moresby campus as an adjunct professor.

Prof Nembou said the workshop was important to bring together the executive management team and the line managers so they get to appreciate the literature and current trends and expectations of leadership and management.

She said such a training workshop on leadership and management was important for the heads of different sections of the university in the academic and administrative divisions to be on the same page with the senior executive management team.

Professor Lamond said it was necessary for people in management positions in DWU to realize that leadership and management work together.

Professor Lamond provided the DWU managers valuable insights into the art of leadership and management from his wide-ranging experiences in working, teaching and researching the subject.

He previously taught and held senior positions in places like the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Sydney Graduate School of Management, Nottingham Business School and currently works as consultant while serving as adjunct professor in several universities in Australia and abroad.

Participants were presented certificates during the dinner hosted by Professor Nembou at the DWU staff mess on Friday 8th July. The workshop was held on Thursday 7th July and Friday 8th July.
