The Student Representative Council (SRC) of Divine Word University, Madang campus hosted a successful “Papua New Guinea Week” to mark the 41st Independence Anniversary of the country.

The events began on Wednesday 14th of September with the presentation of various traditional and contemporary songs, dances and other items such as a PNG fashion parade and a parade of the national and provincial flags at the St John Paul II Community Centre on the evening of Thursday 15th September.

The actual Independence Day which was Friday 16th September saw the flag raising ceremony in the morning followed by sports and more events in the evening.

The sports continued with the finals on Saturday along with the closing ceremony of a fun-filled yet thought-provoking few days of activities.

The “PNG Week” is a tradition that the SRC started several years ago and held each year to mark the birth of the country.

The PNG Week is always a time for PNG students and staff to come out and show their love and patriotism for their country. It is one time that the DWU slogan “an authentic model for national unity” comes alive.
