Divine Word University Rabaul Campus celebrated its annual Missioning Ceremony and Graduation on 1 December, 2016.
The day started with a Thanksgiving Mass, during which graduands received their mission crosses from Fr Fancis Meli, Parish Priest and Chair of the Board of St Mary's Hospital in Vunapope.
A total of 51 nurses and midwives from St Mary's School of Nursing graduated: 31 with their Diploma in General Nursing and 20 with a Bachelor in Midwifery.
As well, 10 academics from DWU Rabaul Campus and one from Arawa School of Nursing in Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARoB) were awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning. Acting Campus Vice-President Mrs Mary Ponahai stated that DWU plans to offer this flexible learning program to other nursing colleges from 2017.
Guest speaker, Ms Meredith Tutumang, Senior Program Manager at the Australian High Commission, commended St Mary's School of Nursing for being a strong partner institution. The School is profoundly thankful for the support of the Australian Government, which is helping the School to achieve its mission: 'To serve Christ in His people'.
Due to the implementation of the four-year Bachelor of Education (Primary), there are no graduating students from DWU Rabaul Campus OLSH Kabaleo in 2016 as students are continuing on to their fourth year of study in 2017.
