Bachelor of Education (Primary) (SBC; OLSHTC; HTTC)

Program Description

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a full-time, pre-service, primary, teacher-education program offered at St Benedict’s, OLSH Kabaleo and Holy Trinity Teachers College. It is a four-year degree program, but students can obtain a Diploma in teaching (Primary) on successfully completing three years.
This program divides into two distinct elements.  The first three years, leading to the award of the Diploma in Teaching, (Primary), is designed to produce well-educated graduates, who will be able to take their place as confident and competent beginning teachers in the primary education system in Papua New Guinea.  In fourth year students must take English OR Mathematics, and Leadership and Management plus the two Research units. Students will select one other unit for an elective specialism.

Credit Points

240 credit points, from three years’ full-time study for Diploma in Teaching (Primary)

300 credit points, from four years’ full-time study for Bachelor of Education (Primary)

Duration of Study

Four years’ full-time study for BEd (Primary) Three years’ full-time study for DipT (Primary)

Note: A Diploma graduate may return at a future date to do the fourth year and gain the degree qualification.

Applicants are required to have a Grade 12 level of education or equivalent with a minimum of a B grade in English and Mathematics.
