Program Requirements
STUDENT INTAKE
To enrol in the Diploma program, Matriculation from Divine Word University or an equivalent Grade 12 standing with high marks in unit related fields (from a NHS “B’s” in Mathematics and Economics). Students matriculating from Divine Word University have a good foundation in English and Mathematics, and have been introduced to the field of Business Studies through units in Business Principles and Bookkeeping. Applicants need to fill out the Divine Word University application papers specific to their status as School Leaver or Non School Leaver before enrolment. These application papers provide a chance for the University to gain satisfactory information on the candidates, and set out the requirements and conditions for enrolment. Once an application has been accepted by the Admissions Committee, the School Leavers proceed by putting Divine Word University as their first choice on the School Leavers form. In the central governmental selections process a candidate’s admission is confirmed once the final results become known.
To enrol in the Degree, students need to have the Diploma in Business Studies from this University and at least one year of work experience in an accounting related field. Students may be accepted to the Degree program immediately after Diploma if they obtain a Grade Point Average of 3 and above.
Equivalent academic and work qualifications from other institutions may also be considered.
Academic Progress
For the Diploma, students are required to pass all Accounting and Mathematics units. The accumulation of two failures in units other than accounting and mathematics may also lead to the termination of studies. A specific requirement of the professional education and training is a nine-week work experience program during Diploma One studies. Successful completion of the work experience program is a prerequisite for entry into Diploma Two studies. The program is designed to assist in the transfer to the work force of knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired in the classroom. It also provides valuable feedback concerning program content and student attitudes. Attendance at all classes is compulsory. The passing mark in all units is 60%. At the Degree level failure in any unit may lead to termination of studies. To qualify for graduation, students are required to pass all units.
A feature of the program at Divine Word University is an emphasis on religious development and professional ethics throughout the entire program of studies in order to create an environment influenced by Christian principles. Divine Word University aims not only at academic and professional excellence, but also at personal growth; to be a place where students develop their character and deepen their Christian faith.
Students are expected to maintain a professional attitude in their academic and social responsibilities.
