History and purpose

The Health Extension program transferred from the Papuan Medical College in Port Moresby to the College of Allied Health Sciences in Madang in 1967. In February 2002 the College of Allied Health Sciences amalgamated with the Faculty of Health Sciences at Divine Word University.

In addition to the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Rural Health, the department offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Eye Care in liaison with the Fred Hollows Foundation NZ, and an Advanced Diploma in Emergency Medicine program in flexible learning mode.
