The sleepy town of Madang was awakened to the funky tunes of Jazz Ambassadors Freddie Bryant and Gilad Dorbrecky from the United States of America when they entertained staff and students at the Divine Word University last Saturday night.
The two musicians also entertained the expatriate community living in Madang many of them already having a developed love for the music genre. For others who attended, Jazz was a new thing to them, and attracted many from the near-by settlements.
Mr Bryant and Mr Dobrecky also ran a free workshop on Jazz and the art of music prior to Saturday night’s concert and music lovers who were able to attend learnt a thing or two about the Spanish guitar and other percussion instruments which they brought with them.
The two are considered the finest Jazz musicians in the western world with Mr Bryant receiving one of the highest awards in Music in the United States and Mr Dobrecky rated as one of the world’s top 12 percussionists.
