The 3rd Annual Information Systems Symposium held on Friday 24th September in Sir Peter Barter Auditorium, Divine Word University was a very essential academic event for the Information Systems (IS) Department, the Faculty of Business and Informatics and DWU where final year graduate students in IS presented a wide range of IT project proposals. This year’s theme ‘Enhancing the Flow of Information in PNG with the Integration of Innovative IT/IS Systems’ is based on new systems and how best they can be designed and implemented into various organizations.

The event is organized and conducted annually by the IS Department under the Faculty of Business and Informatics in DWU. This year’s event covered four main fields including Wired and Wireless Networking, Web Enabled Systems, Database Systems and Decision Support Systems.

In between the groups of students’ presenters, the department had presentations from its invited speakers including the IT Manager for Christian Leaders Training College (CLTC), Mr. Jonathan Zureo who is a former student of the department. Mr. Zureo from his presentation gave the students an insight into the benefits of connecting various sites in an organization in Wide Area Networks and concluded strongly by challenging the current students to be productive leaders as they are the agents of change for this country.

Representatives from the DWU ICT Services Department, Mr. Charith Silva and Ms Jennifer Sirias were also amongst the list of those invited.  Discussing the Importance of Integrating New Technologies in Higher Learning Institutions as well as highlighting some recent developments in DWU ICT Systems one is the DWU Online Testing Centre where students can utilize to sit for professional certification exams right here in DWU. Mr. Peter Loko, CEO of Telikom PNG Ltd was also present as the Keynote Guest Speaker and spoke to the students on Telikom PNG Ltd’s VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) System and its benefits. Remington Technology Madang branch also gave their support towards the event.

During the closing ceremony, IS class representatives Mr. Godwin Bonai and Ms Flavia Sengele presented certificates and token of appreciation to the invited guests and Head of Department Dr. Peter Anderson thanked all presenters and event organizers for yet another successful Symposium.
