Following the Media Freedom Day celebrations this Friday (30 April), the Divine Word University in Madang will host its annual Open Day on Sunday 2nd May.
The Open Day gives another opportunity to the public and the rest of the university community to interact with communication arts (journalism) students and learn more about the media and the communication field, if they did not get a chance during the celebrations on Friday.
The Communication Arts (journalism) Department of DWU, which offers journalism and communication studies, will use the Open Day to highlight the work of the media and its important role in the development of society.
Displays of the various aspects of media’s role in society and training will be put up along with information sessions with members of the public.
The Open Day is set aside each year to allow students in the Communication Arts and those in other departments to showcase what they learn and do for the benefit of the public.
There are six Faculties in DWU each with different departments. The Communication Arts is part of the Faculty of Arts. The theme for 2010 Open Day is “In partnership for Quality of Higher Education in Papua New Guinea”.
Governor General Sir Paulus Matane will be the guest of honour in this year’s Open Day. Partners of the departments and faculties are expected to take part during the day.
