Wewak campus gears up for PNG Medical Symposium

Planning for the 46th annual PNG Medical Symposium later this year is already strongly underway in Wewak. The Wewak General Hospital-based Organising Committee is led by Dr Godfrey Naboam.
The Committee has been meeting every week to hear reports and give encouragement to a host of sub-committees who are looking after the many aspects of planning. Dr Naboam receives reports from the different groups who are mobilizing all of the resources of the town of Wewak to support this Symposium in his weekly meetings.
The venue for the Medical Symposium will be Divine Word University’s St Benedicts Kaindi Campus. This will be the second time DWU will host the high profile symposium, after the Madang campus hosted it in September 2006.
DWU’s Vice president for the Kaindi Campus, Dr Patrick Gesch said the students and staff will ensure the campus ready for the important gathering.
Dr Gesch said after bringing the campus into good shape, the Kaindi students will go out on Full Time Practical teaching experience in August, leaving the campus for the 1,500 visitors who are expected from within PNG and from overseas.
The planning takes place with committees who are already arranging the menu, organizing transport, broadcasting planning over the Internet, researching the hotels and hostels of Wewak, and doing fund-raising.
The Medical Symposium will start on Sunday evening 29th August and run till the end of that week. Contributions to this important annual national event, being held for the first time in Wewak, can be made to the BSP account “2010 Medical Symposium”.
