The annual mini tourism show, ‘Liklik Diwai Turism Expo’ staged by Tourism and Hospitality Management students of Divine Word University is on again this Friday.

Over 10 exhibitors from the tourism and hospitality industries, government, non-government organisations and the community are expected to participate.

Coordinating lecturer and former senior executive of the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority, Ms Erigere Singin said the expo is part of the Events Management course unit she teaches for the final year bachelors degree students.

Ms Singin said the expo exposes the students the rigors of managing events in the tourism and hospitality industries.

“With a focus on PNG, students examine and evaluate management, marketing, financial and operational considerations together with strategies necessary to ensure a viable event,” Ms Singin said in statement.

She said through the staging of the event opportunities have been made available for the tourism industry members, public at large and DWU community to come together to learn more about tourism, travel and hospitality; opportunities for personal interaction by students and stakeholders, meeting of potential future employers and employees. Ms Singin said the ‘Liklik Diwai Turism Expo’ fills the void of the current lack of a provincial venue or forum for the industry.

The expo began in 2008 and this year’s event is expected to be even bigger.  The expo will be begin with launch and speeches at the SVD Memorial 9 am onwards and followed by exhibitions held at AJ Hall. Entry is free.
