Pioneer project management students to graduate
March 02, 2010
At a time when Papua New Guinea is at the cross-road of a boom in major resources and infrastructure development projects, Divine Word University tailored for its students a program in “Project Management” few years ago.
This program is graduating its pioneer students with the “Diploma in Project Management” during DWU’s 28th graduation this Sunday.
And according to Fr Philip Smith, the Dean of the Faculty of Flexible Learning that is running the program: “It is one of our most popular programs and we are looking at seriously moving it up to the degree level.”
Fr Smith said given the many new project developments “and especially with the LNG project coming on line, we hope to graduate as many Papua New Guineans with skills and knowledge in project management.”
Fr Smith said since the Project Management program was first offered two years ago, many students enrolled in the subsequent semesters and more project managers will graduate in due course.
The pioneer “Diploma in Project Management” class of five students, who had to balance full-time work and studies under the flexible learning mode will be among over 1200 graduates that would have received awards from DWU on Sunday.
The largest number of 760 will pass out from the ceremony at the Madang campus at the weekend while the balance graduated late last year in the affiliated and amalgamated campuses of Don Bosco Technological Institute in Port Moresby, Good Shepherd College Banz and OLSH Kabaleo Teachers College, Rabaul.
This Sunday’s ceremony will involve graduates from the under-graduate and post-graduate programs offered by DWU’s six faculties and affiliated nursing colleges, Lutheran School of Nursing in Madang and St Mary’s Nursing College in Rabaul.
