Diwai club receives uniforms

Diwai Rugby League players and officials modeling the new set of uniforms sponsored by National Gaming and Control Board.

The National Gaming and Control Board (NGCB)have come to the aid of the Divine Word University Rugby League Club popularly known in Madang Rugby League as “Diwai” by providing a brand new set of uniforms valued at K7000. The uniform set in the club’s blue and yellow stripes was negotiated by final year business student, Elvis Balg and was presented to the club at the Madang campus recently.

Br Andrew Simpson the Vice President Student Academic and Administration of the University thanked the National Gaming and Control Board for the jerseys at the ceremony held at the SVD Memorial Auditorium.

Tony Mokono, President of Diwai Rugby League extended his appreciation to the Chief Executive Officer of NGCB, Mr Simon Sanangke for the uniform set as well as other support so far.

Captain of the club and second year business student, Eddie Lapa said: “On behalf of the Diwai Rugby league boys we want to sincerely thank Elvis Balg for the job well done in securing this timely gift.”

The team also extended their gratitude to PNG National Gaming and Control Board for the generous offer and declared that the team is now formally known as NGCB Diwai. The Diwai club takes part in the Madang Rugby League competition. The team hopes to tour Australia and play against the Australian Catholic University and other teams in the tertiary student competition this year if all arrangements are successful.
