DWU Community Saddened

16/10/2011

The Divine Word Community is greatly saddened by the loss of lives on the Airlines PNG plane crash in Madang on October 13.  Among the passengers were the parents, family members and relatives who were to attend the Missioning Ceremony of the graduating students on October 14.  We are one with the families in their sorrow at this unfortunate incident.

The University Council, staff and students share this grief with the families and loved ones.

A special Mass and prayers was held by the President, Fr. Jan Czuba, at the St. Joseph Freinademetz Chapel on October 15 at 8:30 am.

The victims of the plane crash and their families were especially remembered at the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist led by His Excellency, Most Rev Archbishop Francisco Montecillo Padilla at the Missioning Ceremony at the SVD Auditorium on Friday, October 14.

The Missioning Ceremony is a unique DWU tradition wherein each graduating student receives special blessings from God and the DWU mission cross as the graduates leave the University to pursue their chosen careers.  It is a time of thanksgiving especially organized by the graduating students for their parents, sponsors and all those who have supported them in their studies.

The DWU Community appreciates the support given by many relatives of the students and friends of the University.

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. ~ Psalm 18:2
