Bank chief commends DWU’s commitment to Vision 2050

The Deputy Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, Benny Popoitai has commended the efforts of Divine Word University which support the government’s Vision 2050.

DSC 0365Mr. Popoitai spoke as guest of the University’s Madang campus at its Open Day on Sunday 5th May, 2013.

Speaking at the SVD Memorial Auditorium, he said DWU continues to develop in various ways in line with the government’s long-term objectives.

Mr Popoitai pointed out the audit of DWU which the university initiated and was successfully completed by a team of international academics in 2011 as an important development achievement. The audit was carried out purposely to assess DWU’s progress and made recommendations for the university to consider.

Education is at the heart of every nation as it strives to develop. Internal audit is an investment worth funding,” Mr Popoitai said.

He said auditing of a university increases positive perceptions of it from stakeholders and partners who continue to support it.

Meanwhile, Mr Popoitai also announced BPNG’s commitment of K5000 towards the university for the upcoming annual Business Ethics Symposium to be held in September, 2013.

He indicated the bank’s future support for DWU as well.

We are looking at sponsoring programs in banking and financing, and that is a symbol of confidence in Divine Word University,

he said.

DWU President, Fr Jan Czuba said the university is content to be on the right track despite challenges.

The higher education sector is going through serious changes, but in 2016 we will reach international standard in this university,

Fr Czuba reiterated.
