Staff gain from research workshop

Staff of Divine Word University (DWU) who are members of the Papua New Guinea-Australia Alumni Association (PNGAAA) took part in a successful Research Analysis and Report Writing Workshop at the Madang campus recently.

PNGAAA engaged experienced Australian academic and researcher, Dr Jeanette Baird from the PNG Office of Higher Education to run the workshop for 30 participants at the Postgraduate and Research Centre of DWU on Saturday 21 June, 2014.

The workshop organised for members of the Madang Chapter of PNGAAA offered participants useful insights into the art of research, how to analyse research data and write reports from it.

Several senior academics and experienced researchers from DWU were also on hand to assist in the presentation by Dr Baird. They included the President of the Madang Chapter of PNGAAA and Vice President (Research) of DWU, Associate Professor Dr Maretta Kula-Semos, DWU Vice President (Academic) Professor Pamela Norman and DWU Associate Professor of Education Research, Dr Patricia Paraide.

Participants also included senior DWU staff such as Vice President Student (Affairs) Mr Ted Alau and Registrar, Mrs Cecilia NDrower.

Assoc Prof Kula-Semos said the workshop was one of several that the PNGAAA planned for its members around the country for the year to assist them in their professional development.

She said the PNGAAA hopes to hold another workshop on public speaking and presentation for the Madang Chapter later in the year.

The PNGAAA members are Papua New Guineans who have studied in Australian educational institutions either through the Australian government scholarship or other sponsorships over the years.

The PNGAAA membership fee is K75 and those who have studied in Australia but are not financial members are encouraged to pay the fee to participate in and benefit from workshops and other events organised by the association.
