DWU to host tourism expo

Divine Word University (DWU) campus in Madang will host a tourism exposition on Friday 18th September, 2015.

The expo is an opportunity for the public to participate and talk about the potential of this renewable economic resource.

The exposition called the “Liklik Diwai Turism Expo” is an annual event organised by final year Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management students as part of their coursework.

The theme for the 8th expo is “Increasing Tourism Opportunities through Quality Research”.

The expo will feature exhibition of tourism and hospitality products and services, presentation of student research reports and speeches by invited guests.

Member for Kundiawa-Gembogl, Mr Tobias Kulang, in whose electorate one of Papua New Guinea’s popular tourist attractions Mt Wilhelm is located, will be the special guest speaker.

Mr Kulang is an alumni member of the University having graduated from the Divine Word Institute, the predecessor of DWU, in the early 1990s.

Mr David Monai, the senior program officer in the Office of Tourism, Art and Culture will be the second guest speaker and DWU President Fr Jan Czuba will deliver the keynote address.

The Bachelor of Tourism & Hospitality Management is a pioneer university program DWU introduced for this sector of the economy in the late 1990s.

Over the years, the program has grown from strength to strength and has graduated many Papua New Guineans who are contributing meaningfully towards the growth of the tourism and hospitality industry. Some of the graduates of the program such as the current head of the Tourism and Hospitality Department Ms Fiona N’Drower are back at the University as academics contributing to the education of the next generation of professionals for the industry.

The Tourism and Hospitality Management Department is one of the departments in the Faculty of Business and Informatics.
