FASS Research Symposium 2015

Research Symposium 2015

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences staged a research symposium on 9 October 2015. This symposium was primarily intended to encourage and support student experience in research activities and showcase those who performed well in different programs under the Faculty. Accordingly, four top ranking research outcomes were selected from each of the undergraduate regular programs (CA, PGIR and SRS) and were included in the list of presenters at the symposium. A few staff members who presented papers in national or international conferences also presented their papers. The faculty also invited NG Binatang Research Center and PNG Forestry Research Institute to the symposium. Mr Nigel Baro from PNG Forestry Research Institute presented a paper on The status and future of PNG language diversity and ethno-biological knowledge’. Prof Maretta Kula-Semos, Professor of Humanities, and Vice President Research and Post Graduate Studies, was the Keynote Speaker in the symposium. The symposium was organized by the FASS Research Committee under the leadership of FASS Research Coordinator, Associate Professor Dr Iwona Kolodziejczyk. The logistics for the program was offered by the FASS student teams, under the responsibility of FASS Corporate Innovations and Enterprising Committee with Fr Harry Gahare as its Chair person. The symposium was a self-funded program. The student participation was excellent. The support of the heads of departments, Fr Dr Patrick Gesch, Fr Dr Luke Apa, Mr Rohan Vincent and Mr Sam Gagau and all research unit lecturers was praiseworthy. Sr Dr Miriam Dlugosz, the Assistant to the Vice President Academic, was also part of the organizing team. Associate Professor Dr Iwona was the chief organizer, the FASS Deputy Dean Fr Dr Joachim Zok distributed the certificates of participation and the Dean of the Faculty, Associate Professor Jose Kurian gave the concluding remarks.
