Summary

Leonie Baptiste works at the Divine Word University (DWU) as lecturer in the Department of PNG Studies and International Relations. After achieving her Bachelor of Arts (PNG studies) in 2007 she, for the first 6 years worked in administration as the executive assistant and research officer to the President of DWU before moving towards a career in academia.

Whilst working in administration at DWU, Leonie managed to complete and graduate with a Master of Educational Leadership and also achieve a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning.

From 2015 – 2016, she was also successful in completing and achieving a second Master of Studies degree focusing on Social Research and

Demography at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia.

Leonie has a passion for the subject of history and social science research methodology, she is currently teaching: Ancient history of the South Pacific, Papua New Guinea history and PNG colonial history. Apart from her passion, she also teaches literature and methodology; which is a study skills unit offered to first year students in her department and faculty. She also assists with units that are multidisciplinary such as Human Resource Management and developmental studies.

With reference to research activities, Leonie has recently been part of a team of domestic election observers working under the Australian National University who for a month participated in observing and interviewing PNG citizens during the pre-polling, polling and post-polling stages during PNG’s 2017 National general elections.
