Bachelor of Environmental Health (BEH)

Program code : (BEH)

Aims

The program aims to provide quality teaching, learning, research and community engagement in support of public health, serving the community and society in a transparent and Christian environment. It provides systematic learning on the management, improvement and promotion of environmental health infrastructure that safeguards the public’s health in the five (5) key areas of environmental health: food safety; water quality; safe housing; environmental protection and occupational health; and public health

The program is well aligned with the University’s strategic plans, PNG Vision 2050, and the National Health Plan 2011- 2020.

Environmental health covers the assessment, correction, control and prevention of environmental factors that can adversely affect health, as well as the enhancement of those aspects of the environment that can improve human health. The main philosophy of environmental health teaching revolves around the concept of ‘healthy environments for healthy people’. It has moved on from our initial linear approach of environmental hazard, exposure and health effect, and ‘how-do-we-fix-it’. The program has become a mix of health, environmental, social, economic and engineering sciences, applications and practices.
