- Granted full university status, officially becoming Divine Word University.
- Given legal backing as an institute via an Act of Parliament.
- Transitioned to become the Divine Word Institute (DWI).
- Founded as Divine Word High School in Madang by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) and the Holy Spirit Sisters (SSpS).
