DWU Students Showcase Communication Research
Final-year students from the Communication Arts Department at Divine Word University, Madang Campus recently showcased their research projects during the Undergraduate Research Poster Presentation on Journalism and Communication, held under the theme “Emerging Researchers in Communication and Journalism: Exploring Contemporary PNG Issues.”
The event was made possible through the generous financial support of Post-Courier and ExxonMobil, whose contributions helped facilitate the successful delivery of the program.
The students had successfully completed their research projects during the previous semester and were given the opportunity to present their findings through academic poster displays. Supported by staff and students from the Papua New Guinea and International Studies (PGIS) Department and the Social and Religious Studies Department, the student researchers engaged directly with audience members, who were invited to ask questions, discuss the research findings, and evaluate the presentations.
The interactive session strengthened students' communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills while encouraging meaningful dialogue between students, academics, industry representatives, and invited guests.
Speaking at the event, ExxonMobil PNG National Content Manager, Mr. Sam Koyama accompanied by his collegue, Melissa Fairi, Media & Events Supervisor, highlighted the importance of research and responsible journalism.
“Events such as this are important because they provide future journalists with the opportunity to develop their research and communication skills. It is equally important for aspiring journalists to ensure that facts are thoroughly checked and verified before stories are disseminated to the public,” Koyama said.
At the conclusion of the program, participating students were awarded certificates in recognition of their research efforts and successful participation. The event reflects Divine Word University's commitment to promoting research, academic excellence, and the development of graduates who can contribute meaningfully to informed public discourse and national development.
