Fr. Czuba Challenges Alumni to Uphold DWU Legacy

Speaking as the founding President of Divine Word University, Professor Fr. Jan Czuba, SVD (1996-2015), challenged alumni to embrace their role as custodians of the University's legacy during the Alumni Foundation Day celebration of the DWU 30th Anniversary Festival of Legacy and Vision.
Reminding graduates that their connection to DWU extends far beyond graduation, Fr. Czuba highlighted the unique sense of moral ownership shared by every alumnus and alumna.

"Legacy is what we do with what we have. Graduation marked not the end of your journey with Divine Word University, but the beginning of a new responsibility. Every graduate has a share and responsibility for the university. You are custodians of its good name, partners in its vision and mission, and witnesses to its values," said Professor Fr. Jan Czuba, SVD.
He noted that while the university provides leadership and education, it is the graduates who carry the mission and values of DWU into workplaces, communities, villages, and organizations across Papua New Guinea.
Highlighting the significance of the Alumni Park and the Immortal Wall of Alumni, Fr. Czuba challenged graduates to consider the impact of their education on others.

"The names recorded there belong to graduates who have made exceptional contributions to society. But it also asks each of us a question: What will you do with the education you have received, and whose life will be better because you passed through DWU? This is the true measure of legacy," said Professor Fr. Jan Czuba, SVD.
Encouraging alumni to continue using their knowledge for the common good and remain connected to the university, he concluded with a challenge:
"Do not allow your relationship with the university to become a memory. We are still being missioned, and each of us has a role to play in strengthening the legacy, vision, and future of Divine Word University," said Professor Fr. Jan Czuba, SVD.
