DWU Recognized at the 8th Science and Technology Conference

Divine Word University (DWU) was represented at the 8th Science and Technology Conference, hosted by the University of Goroka (UoG) from 22–25 September 2026. The conference brought together participants from universities and research institutions across Papua New Guinea to share research, innovation, and technological developments.

DWU was represented by DWU Vice President Academic Affairs, Professor Iwona Kolodziejczyk, Mr. Spencer Buno, Bachelor of Education student, and Mr. Ben Ninkama, Senior Lecturer and Research Coordinator in the Faculty of Education. Mr Spencer Buno also co-presented with Mr Ninkama during the conference.

The conference featured three presentation streams: Poster Presentation, Oral Presentation, and Demonstration Presentation. Mr.Ninkama’s work received a Gold Medal in the Poster Presentation stream, recognising his research and innovation.

Mr. Ninkama presented two independent web-based applications that he designed and developed using self-taught coding skills:

“Design and Development of an Online Student Registration System for Improving Administrative Efficiency in Educational Institutions in Papua New Guinea”

“Web-Based School Assessment and Reporting Management System”

The two systems were developed to address practical administrative and educational challenges faced by higher education institutions, primary schools, and secondary schools in Papua New Guinea. The projects demonstrate the potential of combining education, research, and technology to develop practical solutions that respond to the needs of Papua New Guinea’s education sector.

Mr. Ninkama expressed his sincere appreciation to Divine Word University for its continued support, particularly in facilitating conference registration and enabling staff and students to participate in academic and research conferences.

This achievement highlights the importance of creating further opportunities for DWU staff and students to participate in academic and research initiatives while continuing to promote research, innovation, collaboration, and technological development in Papua New Guinea.
