Bachelor of Education (Primary), BEd(Primary)

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a four-year full-time program designed to prepare competent and socially responsible primary school teachers. Students complete the first three years to earn a Diploma in Teaching (Primary), which allows entry into the teaching profession. High-performing students may progress to a fourth year to obtain the full Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree, and suitably qualified diploma graduates may also return later to complete the degree.

The program integrates theory and practical teaching experience, focusing on classroom practice, professional knowledge, critical thinking, cultural awareness, and educational leadership. Graduates are prepared to become effective educators and positive agents of change in schools and communities.

Study Structure:

  • 4 years full-time study for Bachelor of Education (Primary)
  • 3 years full-time study for Diploma in Teaching (Primary)
  • Diploma graduates may return later to complete the fourth year for the degree qualification

Credit Points:

  • Diploma in Teaching (Primary): 360 credit points (3 years full-time)
  • Bachelor of Education (Primary): 480 credit points (4 years full-time)
  • 1 credit point equals approximately 10 hours of student learning activity

Graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Primary) program should be able to;

  • Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students

  • Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment

  • Fulfil wider professional responsibilities.
    In addition, graduates will demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct

Entry Requirements

·        Grade 12 level of education with minimum GPA of 2.8

·        Minimum of a B grade in language & literature and General Mathematics.

·      High performing Field teachers with over five years of teaching experience with good GPAs, high performance reports and are currently employed are eligible to apply for one year full time Bachelors program.
