The Bachelor of Physiotherapy is a four-year full-time program designed to prepare qualified physiotherapists with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional attitudes required to assess, treat, and advise patients across diverse health conditions.

The program comprises 480 credit points, followed by two years of residency in provincial hospitals, and has an expected intake of 35 students. It emphasizes ethical practice, critical thinking, problem-solving, continuous learning, multidisciplinary teamwork, and research in areas such as women’s health, musculoskeletal injuries, neurology, orthopaedics, sports injuries, and physiotherapy education.


Career opportunities and pathways for graduates.

Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and completing two years of residency training at the Provincial Hospitals, candidates must register with the PNG Medical Board (PNGMB) as physiotherapists. Once their license to practice is approved and granted by the PNGMB, candidates will be free to apply for jobs.

Entry Requirements

School Leavers

• School leavers must have achieved an A in English and a minimum grade of B in Biology, Physics or Chemistry in Grade 12.

 

Non-School Leavers

Non-school leavers, such as Physiotherapy assistants, nurses, and Health Extension Officers, must have:

• A grade in English, a B grade in Mathematics, Biology or Chemistry/Physics at Grade 12.

• At least two (2) years of prior work experience in rehabilitation.

• A recommendation letter from their supervising physiotherapist and an essay describing their interest in Physiotherapy.

In addition, all applicants will be required to write a supervised English essay explaining why they would like to enroll in the Physiotherapy Program.

 

All applicants for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy are encouraged to seek exposure to rehabilitation services and individuals with disabilities before their application. Preference for placement in the program will be given to those applicants who pursue rehabilitation and disability experience. Applicants who are unable to gain such exposure due to a lack of available services in their area will not be disadvantaged.
