DWU Celebrates SVD’s 152nd Foundation Day

Today, 8 September 2026, Divine Word University joined the worldwide Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in celebrating the 152nd Foundation Day of the congregation.
The occasion brought together members of the SVD Missionaries, along with the University's academic and administrative staff, in a celebration of faith, mission, and the enduring legacy of the Society founded in 1875 by Saint Arnold Janssen.

The gathering provided an opportunity to reflect on the SVD's unwavering commitment to education, evangelisation, and service to communities around the world, values that continue to guide Divine Word University in its mission of forming leaders through quality education.
A highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial cake cutting, led by Archbishop Douglas Young, symbolising gratitude for 152 years of faithful service and the continued growth of the Society of the Divine Word.

As Divine Word University honours this significant milestone, the University expresses its heartfelt appreciation to the SVD Missionaries for their vision, dedication, and lasting contribution to education and the spiritual development of Papua New Guinea and beyond.
Happy 152nd Foundation Day to the Society of the Divine Word!
