Welcome to Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

Welcome to Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

Dear Staff and Students,

Welcome to the 2024 academic year. I trust you had a relaxing holiday with your family and relatives and you are ready to start a new academic year. In a special way I would like to welcome our new faculty members and the first year students, also the returning FASS staff and the continuing students. I wish to extend my sincere welcome to all the staff and different cohorts of Flexible Learning students from the Department of Government and Leadership.

The theme for the current DWU academic year is: “Committed to Integral Human Development”, which is a concept vital to the Catholic social tradition and is deeply rooted in our DWU Charter.

Integral human development indicates development of each person and the whole person, which goes well with the Melanesian cultures that underline the holistic approach to the world, religion, inseparability of the material and spiritual and interconnectedness within a community that includes the environment and the whole universe.

May the vision and mission of the Divine Word University to be leading University in the Catholic tradition, committed to integral human development in PNG and the Pacific Region remain a constant reminder that the Source of our energy, success and persistence in reaching the set goals is the Divine Word whose mission we are carrying on.

May the Divine Word evoke in our hearts the enthusiasm of starting this new academic year with a greater commitment to the integral human development of every member of our Divine Word community starting from ourselves.

Thus, I extend my invitation to our Partners and benefactors to join us in our academic efforts as wholeheartedly “Committed to Integral Human Development”.

I wish you all a blessed and successful year 2024.
