St Benedict's Teachers' College was established as a Catholic Education Agency teacher education college in 1968 and has made a significant contribution to teacher education over the years. DWU accepted responsibility for St Benedict's through amalgamation in August 2003 and remains committed to the provision of educational programs, particularly teacher education, from the St Benedict's Campus.
The St.Benedicts campus offers preparation for future teaching inside of the three department.
Humanaities, Mathamatics, Science and Education which contains professional and specialeducation referred to the service for the disabled persons.
Introduced this year to Rural outreach program contains not only contribution to the special education for our students but also service in the rural area of Wewak, Yangoru and Angoram districts.

St. Benedict’s Campus is a Faculty of Education of the Divine Word University. It is dedicated to developing human resource in the field of Education. Regardless of race, culture and color, we work together to share knowledge, skills, ideas and experiences to the extent that we mold and maintain quality Teachers in Education.. Located along the West Coast road of East Sepik Province, the campus is accessible through public and private transport.
We offer a four-year Bachelor in Education (Primary Teaching) program. The campus offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches from National and International academics.
We also provide Flexible Learning including:
- Matriculation (Year 11 & 12)
- Year 12 Upgrade.
Our Flexible Learning Centre is also established in the heart of Maprik Town.
The Campus is now looking to expand its learning program to Nursing Studies.

FACILITIES
Academic Division
The Faculty has three departments. The department of Humanities, with eight staff members, teaches the subjects of Social Science, Language and Religious Education. The department of Mathematics and Science, with nine staff members, teaches the subjects of Mathematics, Information Technology, Science and Community Development. The Department of Professional Education, with four staff members, teaches the methodology and ethics of the art of Teaching.
Administration
The St Benedict’s Campus management is made up of the Vice-President, The Finance Team, The Student Services, The Human Resource Management and the Academic Coordinator. This team is known as the Leadership Management Board (LMB). The LMB meets once each month to discuss the management issues of the Campus.
The St Benedict’s Campus also houses the President’s Office and over sees the overall leadership and supervisory functions on this campus. In addition, the President manages the corporate partnerships between DWU and its institutional partners in Papua New Guinea while maintaining DWU presence in the East Sepik Province.
