The Bachelor of Education (Primary, Inservice) program offers experienced teachers, with a Diploma in Teaching (Primary), the opportunity both to gain professional learning and to upgrade to a degree qualification.
The BEd (Pri, Ins) program enables students to analyse the challenges of primary education in the context of current reforms, social justice and equity, informed by a Christian ethos. Attention is given to literacy skills and content knowledge. The program equips participants to become leaders within their schools, informed of current trends, and better able to serve the needs of the primary education sector in PNG.
Applicants should hold a diploma or certificate in teaching and have a minimum of five years' teaching experience.
Duration of study
The BEd (Pri, Ins) program is offered in flexible learning mode. Students take two units a semester and complete the program in two years. Students are required to participate in a two-week residential component each semester. Students usually have their own personal laptop.
Credit points required
Each of the 8 units has a ten credit point value.
Requisites to complete the award
Students are required to gain 80 credit points to be eligible to graduate with the award.
Costs
K100 non-refundable application fee
K3000 per semester (K1500 per unit) Travel, accommodation and meals are additional. Current fee for on-campus accommodation and meals is K1,470.00 per fortnight (K105 per day). Day students can have morning tea and lunch on campus for a fee of K200 for the 2 weeks.
